Fed: Groups to appear before abortion inquiry

Doctors .. the Women's Electoral Lobby and a right to life group will be among those
fronting a parliamentary inquiry today on abortion.

The Senate inquiry is looking at whether the health minister should be stripped of
his power to make decisions about abortion pill RU486.

The committee is inquiring into a private members bill which aims to amend the Therapeutic
Goods Act to give power to approve the drug to the Therapeutic Goods Administration.

The power rests currently with health minister TONY ABBOTT.





JOHN HOWARD has agreed to allow coalition MPs and senators a conscience vote next year.
