Vic: Terror laws strong enough-Costello

A senior federal government minister says Australia's anti-terrorism laws are tough enough.

Federal treasurer PETER COSTELLO was commenting on Friday's acquittal of the first
man jailed under the new anti-terrorism laws by the Victorian Court of Appeal.

JOSEPH TERRENCE THOMAS had originally been found guilty of receiving funds from al-Qaeda
in February.

Mr COSTELLO refuses to comment directly on the THOMAS case .. but says Australia's
laws on terrorism are strong enough.

Meanwhile .. Labor's KEVIN RUDD says the government handled the THOMAS case badly.
